'The Evergreen' was a Celtic Revival periodical, a celebration of Celtic myth and legend but at the same time embracing science and literature. The editor of the periodical was the polymath, Sir Patrick Geddes, who was a biologist and a sociologist and is considered to be the father of town planning (for which he was knighted), Patrick Geddes was mentor and generous benefactor to the Symbolist and leading Celtic Revival painter, John Duncan (1866 -1945). This edition has contributions from W.Macdonald, Rosa Mulholland, Fiona Macleod, George Eyre-Todd, J Arthur Thomson, & Patrick Geddes.
A pleasure to have a copy of this book in such good condition - the book is complete and no pages are missing. The embossed and decorated leather bound boards are in a good state and design is still very attractive. Spine titles are legible. Binding is sound, some cracking to hinges. Top edge gilt has dulled a little. Pages are clean. This issue is packed with beautiful black and white Art Nouveau illustrations which include tailpieces and headpieces.
